Cerebral Palsy & Neurodevelopmental Disability (NDD)

Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders that affect movement and muscle tone or posture. It is most often caused by damage that occurs to the immature, developing brain – most often before birth. Children and young adults with cerebral palsy have usually suffered a form of early injury to the brain and this can affect them in myriad ways with problems ranging from intellect & cognition, motor function, sensory functions including vision, hearing & touch, to speech & language functions, and emotionality & non-traditional behaviours.
Doctors classify CP according to the main type of movement disorder involved. Depending on which areas of the brain are affected, there are four main types of CP:
The cause of cerebral palsy and its effect on function vary greatly. Some people with cerebral palsy cannot walk, or may have intellectual disabilities. Epilepsy, blindness or deafness might also be present in some cases. Cerebral palsy is a lifelong disorder with no cure, but treatments can help improve function.

Signs & Symptoms

The signs of CP vary greatly because there are many different types and levels of disability. The main sign that a child might have CP is a delay reaching motor or movement milestones (such as rolling over, sitting, standing, or walking). Following are some other signs of possible CP. It is important to note that some children without CP also might have some of these signs.

Diagnosis

While the diagnosis is clinical, at Buddhi Clinic we use a combination of brain imaging, electrophysiology and blood tests to rule out reversible causes or other contributing factors. We also prescribe a thorough pre-rehabilitation assessment including an evaluation for co-morbidities (associated conditions) which will be required in all instances. At Buddhi Clinic our assessment includes standard outcome indicators for activities of daily life, quality of life, neuro-disability and mental health.

Treatment

Buddhi Clinic addresses the problems faced by children with CP and other neurodevelopmental disabilities by combining psychological treatments such as cognitive enhancement & behavioral management with motor-sensory treatments like ayurveda, acupressure, reflexology, yoga & neurodevelopmental therapy. We work on fully integrated bodily functions: posture, gait, balance & movement.
At Buddhi Clinic we analyze intellect, seizures and behaviour in tandem. Our Buddhi Clinic program addresses a gamut of problems – seizures, mood swings, acting out behaviors, delayed self-help skills, problems with emotional expression & socialization, etc. Apart from medication that enhances attention and memory, and improves overall behavioural issues, we have available a range of memory enhancement procedures including –
