Depression

People with clinical depression generally have the Beck’s triad: negative views about the world, self & the future.

Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. To be diagnosed with depression, the symptoms must be present for at least two weeks.
Healthcare providers diagnose depression based on a thorough understanding of your symptoms, medical history and mental health history. When treated in time, more than 80% of people with depression eventually respond well to treatment.

Signs & Symptoms

If you have been experiencing some of the following signs and symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for at least two weeks, you may be suffering from depression:
Not everyone who is depressed experiences every symptom. Some people experience only a few symptoms while others may experience many.

Diagnosis

While the diagnosis is clinical, we also require brain imaging, electrophysiology and blood tests to rule out reversible causes or contributing factors. A thorough pre-rehabilitation assessment including evaluation for co-morbidities (associated conditions) will be required in all instances. At Buddhi Clinic our assessment includes standard outcome indicators for activities of daily life, quality of life, neuro-disability and mental health.

Treatment

We look beyond the symptom and the syndrome; going beyond the diagnosis – to the individual with the disorder. Depression is a common condition; each sufferer is however, unique, and that is our focus. At Buddhi Clinic we focus on sub-typing depression, identifying underlying biological, psychological & social factors. We build comprehensive psychometric profiles of our clients and plan interventions that target not just the symptoms, but also the causative factors & co-morbidities.

Apart from drug treatment of depression we have in Buddhi Clinic 4 Tesla Neurosoft repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) delivered with diligence by experienced and internationally trained professionals. We combine this with a range of expert psychotherapy procedures including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as well as a range of Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) interventions – Ayurveda, Naturopathy & Yoga for a unique, holistic, & integrated care approach.
